The First Foot Guards

Historically, the First Foot Guards regiment was commanded by Sir John Russell, the former commanding officer of Prince Rupert's Bluecoats, after the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. The Foot Guards were deployed in the West Country in 1685 to quell the rebellious Duke of Monmouth.

Due to the close association of the regiments, we take on the First Foot Guards as an alter-ego to explore a wider historical purview (and look at the hats!).

The concept is to recreate a reinforced Company of Foot of the Royal Regiment of Foot Guards. As the Grenadiers were in their own Companies, we are based on a Company of Foot that has been reinforced by a platoon of Grenadiers under their own officer.

Having moved on 40 years, much of the history, drill, and equipment has changed from the English Civil War. Explore further to find out more about this oft-forgotten era of history.

Membership of the First Foot Guards requires membership of Prince Rupert's Bluecoats.
